Celebrate National Storytelling Week at the Horniman. Enjoy quiet reading time in our Pop-Up Library or Under 5s Book Zone.
If you love listening to stories as well as reading them, then join our popular professional storytellers for some oral storytelling every day at 4pm. Be enchanted by stories from all over the world.
Sunday 29 January
Olivia Armstong tells stories of the sun, moon and starry skies. Who lives on the moon? What happened when the moon paid us a visit? Magical stories on cold days to warm the heart.
Monday 30 January
Join storyteller Olivia Armstrong to find out about one of her favourite animals - the Horniman fox. Hear his story and other tales of animals you might find in and around the museum.
Tuesday 31 January
Listen to lovely and lively stories from storyteller Debbie Guneratne who tells tales imbued with the spirit of her native Sri Lanka.
Wednesday 1 February
Author and storyteller Margaret Bateson-Hill tells Birds of a Feather – a selection of tales about our feathered friends
Thursday 2 February
Storyteller Josh Gaillemin brings the museum to life with active and entertaining stories from around the world.
Friday 3 February
Paul Rubenstein will be telling stories set to music full of interactivity, instruments, singing and sound effects. Inspired by trees and woods he will tell the beautiful story 'The Giving Tree' by Shel Silverstein and an Autumnal piece called 'The Apple Tree'.
Saturday 4 February
Beans, vegetables, berries and cereals – Paul Rubenstein will tell stories about all the edible things nature brings. Stories will include musical versions of 'The Little Red Hen', 'Kallaloo' (a Caribbean version of 'Stone Soup') and the Chinese folk tale 'Sweet and Sour Berries'.
